Have you thought of the key things to remember to do before you come to a UK university? Well, at KPInternational we provide you with a checklist of these things.
If you are a non – EU international student coming to study at a UK university then you will require a visa. The Visa you will require is a Tier 4 (General) Student Visa and the cost for it is £348. You must apply for this visa before you come to study in the UK otherwise you won`t be allowed into the country at immigration. We would recommend that you sort this out 3 months before your course starts to give yourself plenty of time for your application to go through. For more information on the Tier 4 (General) Student, please look on GOV.UK
- NHS surcharge
If you are a non – EU international student coming to study at a UK university then you will be required to a NHS Surcharge (National Health Service). This will cover your medical fees whilst being a student in the UK. The cost of the Surcharge is £525 and will need to be paid before you arrive to study in the UK. For more information on the surcharge, please look at GOV.UK.
- English Language test
All international students, including students from the EU, will be required before partaking in any higher-level education in the UK to prove that your English meets the required level. The only exception to this rule is if the nation you are coming from, native tongue is English for a full list of countries exempt from an ELT (English Language Test) please click here. If you are not exempt from an ELT, then you will have to take one before coming to study in the UK. Your ELT will need taken with a company or organisation, which offers an accredited test by the British Government. For more information on what is an accredited course, please click here.
- Finances – Tuition Fees
If you are a non – EU student you will not be eligible for a student loan, which covers your tuition fees. This means that you will have to organise an alternative plan in order to pay your fees. It is also more than likely that your university will ask you to pay an upfront deposit, which will then come out of your first year tuition fees. We at KP international recommend you speak to the university you wish to attend directly to find out what costs you will have to pay exactly.
